BY CAROLINE BRIDGET GOMEZ PART ONE & PART TWO & PART THREE
Dark clouds were beginning in the sky. A sure sign of heavy rain or even a
thunderstorm. Brooke was driving home from work on a lonely stretch of road. The day had
begun with a few minor disasters and they seemed to have lasted the whole day long. The
first was when she woke up late after forgetting to set the alarm clock. The kids were not
at home as they were spending the week with Eric and Stephanie and she belatedly remember
telling their housekeeper Anna to take the day off . Since no one was around, she decided
to finish up some outstanding reports and when she finally went to sleep, it was almost
midnight. The second was when her car refused to start in the morning and she had to call
a cab. She arrived at the office late and was told that Victor Newman was waiting to see
her. After attending to him, she received a call from Bridget saying that she and Rick
were going to a concert late that night with Amber and that they will be spending the
night at Stephanie's place. The last straw was when her secretary had to leave early due to an emergency
and the agency sent her a temp who could barely keep up with her. After giving the girl
some reports to file, she dismissed her and decided to finish the work herself. Later that
day, the garage called to say that her car would not be ready, as there was some part that
needed to be ordered. The car rental agency had only an old blue sedan to lend her. Feeling exhausted and thoroughly tired out, she packed up and left the office
at six. She hadn't seen Ridge the whole day and Eric was busy with some new designs. A
slight throb was beginning at back of her head . Great, she thought, now she had a
headache to add to her list of disasters. Now halfway home, rain poured heavily causing
the roads to be flooded and visibility poor. Muttering a swear, Brooke carefully drove
home. Usually it took her half an hour to reach home but today it took her twice as long
and how she made it back home she couldn't recall. Once home, she tossed her briefcase on the sofa and went straight upstairs to
her bedroom. Not bothering to put away her office attire neatly, she just stripped and
stepped into her nice hot shower. Too tired to fix herself dinner, she just went straight
to bed as her headache was becoming worse. Sometime later, she awoke feeling feverish and cold. Her whole body ached and
she forced herself to get up and make her way to the bathroom cabinet. Rummaging inside,
she couldn't find any aspirin. Knowing Anna's penchant of throwing away old medications,
she assumed the aspirin bottle was thrown down the waste disposal long ago. She decided to
check the kitchen cabinet to see if there were any left. Shrugging on her bath robe and
not bothering with slippers she made her way to the staircase. On the way to the staircase a wave of dizziness hit her. She had to hold on to
the banister and steady herself. While she was slowly making her way down, she missed her
footing and fell headlong down the stairs with a scream. After that , everything went
blank as she passed out. A few hours later... Someone was calling out her name and shaking her. "Logan...Logan wake up.
Oh! God, Logan can you hear me." It was Ridge's voice. Slowly forcing her eyes open,
she looked at him. "Logan...are you all right. Don't try to move, I 'm going to call
'911'."said Ridge. "No...Please Ridge...Don't. I'm fine.Just help me up." whispered Brooke
"You're not fine. You're burning up with fever and you have a hell of a bruise on
your forehead."said Ridge as he gently helped Brooke up to a standing position."
I'll be ok. Just don't take me to a hospital."pleaded Brooke."You are one
stubborn lady but I'm going to let you have it your way .Here ...let me help you to the
sofa."said Ridge as he placed him arm around Brooke. Her knees buckled and she would
have fallen if not for Ridge's strong arms around her. Muttering a curse, Ridge swung
Brooke up in his arms and carried her upstairs to her bedroom. He gently laid her on the
bed and covered her with a blanket. "I'll be back in a second."said Ridge as he
lightly kissed Brooke on the cheek and left the bedroom. Moments later he was back in her bedroom, armed with a pan of water, some
towels and a bottle of aspirin. He dipped the towel in the water and squeezed out the
access water. Folding the towel, he placed it on her forehead. "That feels so
good."said Brooke. Her eyes were so glazed with fever that she couldn't stay awake.
"Don't go back to sleep yet Logan, you have to take some aspirin."said Ridge
softly. But Brooke had passed out cold and her head fell back onto the pillow. Ridge took her hot hands in his and prayed that she will be fine. There was a
thunderstorm outside and he was sure he wouldn't be able to take her to even the nearest
hospital. He decided that the only way to bring down her fever was to give her some
aspirin. He put two tablets on a clean piece of paper and mashed them up. Putting the
mashed tablets in a spoon, he held Brooke head up and slowly tried to push the spoon in
her mouth. Then he tried to make her swallow some water. Although, she swallowed some
water but a lot of it spilt and dribbled down her chin. Wiping away the water with the
back of his hand, he laid Brooke back down on the pillow. Since hadn't eaten anything for dinner, he went downstairs and fixed himself a
sandwich and made some coffee. Not wanting to leave Brooke alone upstairs, he quickly
grabbed a few things from the kitchen to take with him. He found a thermos and filled it
with coffee. He figured that he would have to keep awake and watch on Brooke as her fever
was dangerously high and moreover she needed to keep taking more aspirin to bring it down.
Two hours later... Ridge felt stiff from sitting down for so long in a chair which he had pulled
closer to Brooke's bedside. Checking his watch, he decided to take Brooke's temperature.
She still was having a fever but the reading was lower than the last time. The bedclothes
were soaked with sweat and so was Brooke's nightgown. Taking a new pale blue nightgown
from her dresser drawer, he pulled Brooke to a sitting position and dispensed the strings
of her wet gown. Pulling it off , he wiped Brooke down with a cool towel and pulled on her
new gown. After mashing a few more aspirins, he again placed it in Brooke's mouth and
forced her to swallow it with water. As Ridge was feeling tired himself, he climbed into bed with Brooke and held
her against his chest and fell asleep. He awoke later, when he heard her moan slightly.
Ridge put the back of his hand on her forehead and felt her temperature. Her fever had
gone. "Logan...Wake up..Please..."whispered Ridge. Brooke heard him and slowly
opened her eyes to see Ridge smiling. "Looks like you're fever has gone."said
Ridge getting up from bed and going into the bathroom. He came back with a glass of water
and helped Brooke to sit up and sip the water."I'm sorry...I just feel so
tired..."whispered Brooke."Don't worry...I'll be here. Now go back to sleep.I'll
be here when you wake up."said Ridge as he placed a kiss on her lips. Brooke
obediently went back to sleep thinking of Ridge watching over her as she slept. The next morning... Brooke opened her eyes as she felt Ridge's lips on hers. She smiled at him
weakly."You gave me quite a scare last night Logan,"scolded Ridge."What
were you thinking of as you came down the stairs. I nearly had a heart attack when I came
in and saw you at the foot of the stairs with that bruise on your forehead." "I
don't know Ridge...the last thing I remember was feeling dizzy and then everything went
blank. I'm sorry I put you through all that trouble."said Brooke softly, not meeting
his gaze. "Logan...You were not a trouble...But next time call someone if you don't
feel well."said Ridge as he held her hands and forced her to look at him. "What were you doing here anyway? "asked Brooke as she got up from
bed. |"It's along story but I'll tell it to you over breakfast. Stay in bed Logan...I
bring you breakfast in bed."said Ridge as he leaned forward and kissed Brooke on her
forehead. As Ridge walked out of the room, Brooke threw the covers off and slowly stood. A
faint feel of dizziness was still there but she was determined to go to the bathroom by
herself. In the bathroom, Brooke quickly brushed her teeth and washed up with warm water.
Her hair was a mat of tangles, so she made her way to the dresser and sat down on the
stool there. Picking up a hairbrush, she started to brush her hair. At that moment, Ridge
entered the room with a tray and a flask of coffee. " Here...let me do
that?"said Ridge as he put the tray down on the dresser and picked up the hairbrush.
With slow, rhythmic and steadying strokes he tamed the mass of hair on her head. Feeling
slightly drowsy from the effect he was causing her, she stopped his hand by saying,"
Ridge...I 'm rather hungry. Why don't we have some of that breakfast you made? The smell
is already making my mouth water."said Brooke as she smiled at Ridge. "Sure...why not? You need to eat something strengthening. That fever of
yours was quite high last night. Not to mention those fainting spells. "said Ridge as
he guided Brooke to the balcony of her room. There was a table and a few chairs there so
he carried the tray there and began unloading it. "So...what are we having for
breakfast?" asked Brooke as Ridge poured her some orange juice. "You didn't have
much in the freezer so I just fried some bacon and eggs. I found some sandwich fixings and
brought them along too. Thought you might be hungry?" said Ridge as he began heaping
her plate with bacon and eggs. Then he helped himself and they began eating breakfast in
silence. "You still haven't told me what you were doing here last night.
"asked Brooke. " "I guess you noticed that I wasn't at work yesterday.
"said Ridge. "Well ...Yes, but what does that have to do with why you're here?
"asked Brooke with a puzzled expression." "I was with Taylor
yesterday," said Ridge as he poured himself some coffee." We were at the
hospital." mumbled Ridge as he gazed at Brooke. "What's wrong? Is Taylor Ill?
Are you all right? "asked Brooke with a shaky voice. "I'm fine...She's
pregnant?" said Ridge. "What...How did that happen?" asked Brooke, her voice almost breaking with
tears. "The usual way I guess."said Ridge sheepishly. "I didn't mean
that," said Brooke, her face turning a bright shade of red. "I know what you
mean, Logan. I myself am quite shocked about the news. That's why I'm here," said
Ridge, as he looked Brooke straight in the eye. "What do you mean?"asked Brooke, even more puzzled. "I know I'm being a bastard about this, but I can't help but wonder if
that baby is really a Forrester."said Ridge as he stood up and walked over to the
balcony railing. His back was towards Brooke. "Ridge...You can't be serious?"
whispered Brooke, shocked. Turning around, Ridge looked at Brooke and said, "Damn
right, I'm, serious." "But why would you think that?" asked Brooke surprised. "Has
she given you any reason for you to come up with that solution?" prodded Brooke as
she looked at Ridge. "Pierce is enough reason for me. " shouted Ridge.
"She's been spending a lot of time with him. Even stays there overnight, working on a
project. Is that enough reason for you, Logan?" asked Ridge. "Spending time with another person doesn't mean sleeping with them. Ridge
... You can't accuse them with just that remark or deduction. You don't know for
sure.," said Brooke as she got up from her seat and approached Ridge. " Logan...
I know for sure. I've seen them together. Not in bed but when Pierce is around Taylor, he
flatters her, compliments her abilities and flirts with her. Taylor seems to like it. I
've even seen them hugging and touching each other." said Ridge gruffly. "
You're not making any sense Ridge. Taylor is a beautiful woman and Pierce knows she's
married. What man wouldn't flirt with her even for a bit,"said Brooke as she leaned
against Ridge's back. Turning around and surprised at what Brooke had just spoken, Ridge
captured her chin in his hand and tilted her face to meet his gaze. " Logan...I never
thought I'll live to see the day you side with Taylor. Your fever must have affected part
of your brain."said Ridge. Laughing out loud, Brooke replied," No...I'm not
siding with Taylor. I don't actually have a say in this matter. It's just that what you
have deduced, doesn't make any sense." Sliding her arms around Ridge's shoulders,
Brooke leant forward and kissed him lightly on the lips. Taken by surprise, Ridge kissed her back. " Give her some time Ridge.
Don't jump into conclusions when you don't know the whole tale," whispered Brooke as
she looked into Ridge's eyes." You were here the whole night. Won't Taylor be
wondering what happened to you."asked Brooke. " I dropped my wife of at LAX
before heading here. I wanted to talk to you about things."said Ridge as he guided
Brooke to her chair and sat down opposite her. "First... Tell me why there wasn't
anyone at home with you when I found you at the bottom of the stairs yesterday?"asked
Ridge. "Ridge...why do you always make an issue out of everything. It was Anna's day
off yesterday and the kids are spending the night with Amber at Stephanie's place. They
went to some late concert last night."explained Brooke. "You were here alone in this big house. It's not safe for you to be here
without anyone. Besides, I'm sure you weren't feeling well even at the
office."scolded Ridge. "Well...It was a busy day in the office today and I
skipped a few meals here and there. Ridge, don't make such a big issue out of
this."said Brooke. "Big issue...Logan, I found you at the bottom of the stairs.
I shook you but you didn't even stir. Do you know how scared I was?"said Ridge.
" I'm sorry Ridge, I truly am for putting you into all that trouble."said Brooke
as she got up from her chair. "Logan...It wasn't any trouble at all. You know you can
ask me for help anytime and I'll be there."said Ridge. As Brooke stood up and made her way to the bedroom, a slight wave of dizziness
hit her and she stumbled. Ridge quickly grabbed her before she fell and carried her in his
arms towards the bed. "Logan...don't move an inch. I'm going to call for a
doctor."ordered Ridge as he took his arms from beneath Brooke and tried to get off
the bed. "No...No Ridge, please.... I just felt a little dizzy. That's all.
Please...Stay with me for a while." whispered Brooke weakly as she put her hand on
Ridge's arm. " Alright, but if I see any more signs of this, I will call a
doctor."said Ridge as he tucked Brooke in the bed and pulled the covers over her.
"You need a rest after that fever last night."said Ridge as walked over to the
other side of the bed. He lay down on the covers and gently pulled Brooke into his arms.
Brooke lay her head down on Ridge's chest and closed her eyes, listening to his steady
heartbeat. It was nearly noon when Ridge felt Brooke stir slightly. Having fallen asleep also,
Ridge gently eased Brooke's head down onto the pillow. She moaned slightly and curled into
a more comfortable position. Ridge placed his hand on her forehead and found it slightly
warm. There were tiny beads of perspiration on her brow and she shivered a little. She was
still having a fever. He debated weather to call a doctor or just help her himself.
Choosing the latter, he eased himself off the bed and made his way to the kitchen. Using
the phone there, he called Stephanie number. When Rick answered, he told them that Brooke
was not feeling well and that he was taking care of her. He also asked them to stay
another day at Stephanie 's house and that he will keep in touch with them soon. Putting down the phone, he quickly rustled up some lunch for himself and
Brooke and made his way upstairs. Brooke was awake and trying to sit up. "Here...Let
me help you Logan,"said Ridge as he quickly moved to her bedside. Plumping up some
pillows behind her, he gently pushed her back down on them. " I don't feel too well,
Ridge."said Brooke in a shaky voice. " I know Logan. You're exhausted and you're
still running a temperature. I should take you to the emergency room but knowing you and
your stubborn ways, you'd never forgive me."said Ridge smiling down at her.
"Please stay with me a while, Ridge."whispered Brooke as she clasped his hand
and put it against her hot cheeks. "Go back to sleep, Logan. Don't worry, I'll be
here when you wake up. I'll take care of you."said Ridge as he leant forward and
kissed her forehead. He gently pulled the comforter around her and pushed a few wayward
strands of hair away from her face. Ridge stayed with Brooke for another half-hour till she fell asleep. Then he
got out of bed and went downstairs to have some lunch. While eating, he heard the doorbell
ring. Getting up, he slowly made his way to the living room. It was Eric at the door. "Ridge...What are you doing here? You look like hell."said Eric surprised.
"Hi dad! Come on in."said Ridge moving aside to let Eric in. "What's going
on? Where's Brooke?."demanded Eric. "Logan is upstairs sleeping. I came by last
night and found her at the bottom of the stairs in a dead faint."said Ridge.
"What...Are you serious? How is she? Is she all right ?"said Eric shocked.
"She's better now. She was running a fever and I stayed here all night. That's why I
look like this."said Ridge. "I didn't see either of you at work today so I
decided to come by. Can I see her?"asked Eric. "Sure... But she's asleep
now,"said Ridge. "Ridge, why don't you go home. Take a shower and change into some clean
clothes. I'll be with Brooke till you get back. Besides, Taylor will be
worried."suggested Eric. " My wife is out of town. But I'll take you up on your
offer. I'll be back in an hour."said Ridge as he grabbed his coat and keys and left
the room. Eric made his way upstairs to Brooke 's bedroom. Brooke was still fast asleep but in her sleep she had kicked off
half the bedspread. Gently pulling the sheets up to her chin, Eric tucked her in and put
his hand on her forehead. It was still warm and clammy. Dragging a chair by her bedside,
he settled himself beside her and held her hot hands in his. Moaning softly in her sleep, Brooke moved restlessly. Her feverish mind
couldn't make out who was holding her hand. She cried out Ridge's name. "
Brooke...Honey, It's me Eric. Hold still."said Eric as he tried to calm Brooke down.
She opened her eyes and gazed at Eric liked she had never seen him before. Eric looked at
her eyes glazed with fever and felt quite helpless. He debated weather to call the
hospital or not. Getting up quickly, he made his way to the bathroom. Grabbing a wash
cloth, he soaked it in some cold water and rinsed it out. Then, he made his way towards
Brooke. Folding the cloth in half, he placed it on her hot forehead. Eric heard a noise behind him and turned around to see Ridge. "
Ridge...Thank goodness you're here. She's burning up with fever. We've got to get her to a
hospital."said Eric. Quickly making his way to her side, Ridge clasped Brooke's hand.
"You're right, dad. We've got to hurry. "said Ridge. "Dad, just grab some
of Brooke's clothes and stuff them into a bag. She might need them. "said Ridge. Eric
made his way towards her cupboard. Finding a small bag there, he stuffed some of Brooke's
nightgowns and a few other essentials into it. Turning around, he saw Ridge wrapping Brooke up in a blanket, and lifting her
into his arms. Quickly opening the door for him, both of them made their way downstairs.
"You better drive dad. I'll hold Brooke. I think she's fainted again."said Ridge
as he looked at Brooke. Her head fell back against his arm and she lost total
consciousness. " We better hurry then."said Eric looking worried as he helped
Ridge place Brooke in the car. There was a hive of activity going on
in the hospital emergency room when Ridge carried Brooke inside with Eric following
closely behind. Eric grabbed a wheelchair from somewhere nearby and Ridge lowered Brooke
onto it. They wheeled her into the nearest emergency room and sought out the doctor in
charge. " Excuse me, please Doctor, she's burning up with fever, you've got to help
us." said Ridge. The doctor took one look at Brooke and quickly called out to some
nurses. He ordered them to lay her on the examination table. Ridge lifted Brooke gently
and placed her on it. A nurse took Ridge's arm and called
him aside. " Sir, you have to move aside. Dr. Miller will look after her. In the
meantime you've got to fill up these forms while we tend to her." said the nurse. The efficient nurse slowly pushed
Ridge out of the room where Eric was patiently waiting. It was almost an hour later when the
nurse came back to see them. " We've checked Ms. Logan into one of our rooms here.
Dr. Miller is with her. You may see her if you wish." " Nothing to worry about too
much. We've brought her fever down and given her something to make her sleep. She terribly
run down. Exhaustion probably. " said Dr. Miller as he looked at her chart. "
Will she be alright?" asked Ridge worriedly as he gazed at Brooke's pale features.
" Yes. What Ms. Logan needs right now is proper rest and relaxation. I'm guessing
that she's been too busy working and skipping meals. If she doesn't take care of herself,
she's liable to end up with pneumonia." said the doctor as he closed Brooke's chart.
" We'll she to it that she takes care of herself. Thank you Dr. Miller for taking
care of her. " said Eric as he shook hands with the doctor. " Sure thing."
said Dr. Miller as he gathered his chart and left the room. Ridge who was sitting by Brooke's
bedside holding her hands, said " Dad. You better go on home and let the kids know. I
'll. stay with her tonight." " Are you sure? You could do with some rest you
know." said Eric as he laid his hand on Ridge's shoulder. "That's okay dad, you
go on home." said Ridge as he followed Eric to the door of Brooke's room. It was almost close to midnight when
Ridge heard Brooke stir. He had dozed off while sitting at her bedside chair. He leaned
towards Brooke and grasped her hands. She opened her eyes and sleepily gazed at him and
smiled. Ridge placed a hand on her forehead and pushed away some stray strands of blond
hair. " How are you feeling?" asked Ridge as he helped Brooke sit up slowly.
" Like I've been hit by a bus and trampled on by a herd of elephants." said
Brooke. Ridge laughed and asked her," Can I get you anything?" " I think a
glass of water would be nice. My mouth feels like it's full of cotton." said Brooke. "I'll be back in a minute."
said Ridge as he went to the bathroom. He came out with a glass of water in one hand and a
wet wash cloth on the other. Ridge held Brooke as she drank the water, then he took the
glass from her and placed it on the side table. Folding the wash cloth into half, he
placed it on Brooke's forehead. " That feels so nice." said Brooke as she lay
back on the pillows. " The doctor said you have to really rest up. Go back to sleep
now, I'll be here with you all night." said Ridge as he tucked Brooke back into bed.
Without any protest, Brooke shut her eyes and drifted back into sleep. Ridge removed the washcloth from her
forehead and sat back in his chair. He looked down at Brooke and noticed how pale and
fragile she looked at that moment. The past few days had been really hectic for her. What
with Christmas and New Year over, she had been terribly busy preparing schedules and
running meetings that she put herself last. Now, as he gazed at her, he wondered
how things were going in the direction of their new relationship. They'd grown closer
somehow and Taylor seemed to be in the background. Ridge loved Brooke. He had always loved
her, but now he had a wife and a son to also think about. Thomas was also a very important
part of his life now. What about Taylor, he thought. Their relationship was rather
drifting apart now. Ridge had to make a decision and he had to make the right one. The next day. "Ridge, I can manage on my
own." said Brooke as he gently lifted her into his arms and placed her on the
wheelchair." " I know that. But I don't want to take any chances. I 'll. wheel
you to the parking lot. Dad's waiting in the car and we'll drive you home as soon as I
finish checking you out of this hospital." said Ridge as he pushed the wheelchair
towards the reception area. Eric and Ridge drove Brooke home
where the kids were eagerly waiting to see her. They pulled into her driveway as the
front door opened and Bridget came rushing out. " Mom, are you okay now. We were
so worried about you?" she said as she threw her arms around her mother and hugged
her. " I'm better now but I think you will kill me if you hug me any tighter."
said Brooke laughing as she hugged her daughter back. "Welcome home, Mom " said
Rick as he approached her and hugged her also. "Thanks, honey, now you guys go back
inside and I be in as soon as I can."said Brooke as she gently shooed them back
inside. Turning to Ridge, she said," I
can't thank you enough for what you have done for me." " Say nothing about it. I was glad I was there to help out. If you need anything, you've only got to ask. Go on inside. Rick and Bridget really missed you." said Ridge as he placed a kiss on Brooke's cheek and prepared to get back into the car. " What about you? Where are you going? " asked Brooke puzzled. " I'll be fine. I think the kids want to spend some time alone with their mother so I'll call back tonight. " replied Ridge as he started the car engine and reversed out of her driveway. He waved at her and drove off. Making her way back into the house,
she found Eric and Rick at the bar getting some drinks ready. As she sat on the sofa,
Bridget came to sit beside her. Brooke put her arms around her daughter's shoulder and
hugged her close. All four of them spent the whole afternoon together having lunched and
then all of them helping out in the kitchen to prepare dinner. It was a pleasant day and
when Eric noticed Brooke getting a bit pale, he said, " Kids, I think yourself mom
has had enough for today, Brooke we'll finish up here while you go on upstairs and take a
nap." " Thanks Eric. You all go on ahead with dinner, I'll eat later when I've
rested a bit." said Brooke as she slowly made her way upstairs to shower and change. As Brooke got into bed that night,
she recalled all that had happened to her in the last few days. After Christmas and New
Year had passed, she had felt so alone. So unloved and so lost. The one person that had
really shown her that she meant something was Ridge. Deep down in her heart she had and
will always love him alone. There was no one else who could take his place. Sighing
deeply, Brooke plumped the pillows behind her and pulled the comforter under her chin and
lay down. Eric came upstairs an hour later to
check on Brooke and found her fast asleep. He decided not to disturb her so he silently
shut her bedroom door and went back downstairs to have dinner with Rick and Bridget.
" How's mom doing?" asked Rick when Eric entered the dining room. " She's
asleep. I didn't want to wake her so let us all start on dinner first." said Eric.
The three of them ate and then helped to wash things up in the kitchen. Eric turned to
Rick and Bridget. He ushered them into the sitting room and sat down to have a talk with
them about Brooke. " I don't want you guys to worry about your mom. She's a strong
woman and she will get well soon. But I do want you both to see that she takes care of
herself. Brooke's liable to work herself too hard ." said Eric. Rick turned to his dad and
replied, " I see what you mean. We'll make sure that mom doesn't over exert herself.
She looks much too pale these days." " Yeah" answered Bridget. " Mom
sure has lost a lot of weight too. She seem very tired." " I know. That's why I
'm trying to convince her to take a short leave of absence from work. How would you all
like to take a vacation sometime soon?" asked Eric. Rick and Bridget both heartily
agreed. " Rick, I know that you've been having some problems with Amber. I think this
will be a good time for you to get away and do some serious thinking." Rick replied,
" I think so too." " I'll try to arrange something for you all soon."
said Eric as he got up to leave. "I'm going back to Stephanie's now, so you guys had
better get some sleep. It's rather late." said Eric as left the house. Rick and
Bridget locked up downstairs and went to bed. It was rather late that night, when
Brooke got up from sleep. The clock at her bedside showed that it was close to midnight.
Pushing the comforter aside, she got up to go to the bathroom for a glass of water. The
ringing of her bedside phone stopped her. Sitting back in bed she picked up the phone and
said, " Hello". The voice on the other end replied, " Did I wake you
Logan?" " Ridge. What are you doing calling at this hour? Are you o.k? Where are
you?" asked Brooke surprised at hearing his voice. Tucking
herself back in bed she smiled to herself happy that Ridge still remembered to call her.
" I'm fine but I hope I didn't disturb you Logan?" said Ridge. " I just got
up for a glass of water." replied Brooke. " Where are you?" asked Brooke.
" Look outside your bedroom window." said Ridge. Puzzled at his reply, Brooke
got out of bed again and made her way to the window. Parting the lace curtains, she looked
out to see Ridge standing on her front porch holding his cellular phone. Smiling broadly,
Brooke called out softly, " What are you doing Ridge?" Ridge switched off his
phone and answered, " I was wondering if you'd let me in." For a reply, Brooke quickly pulled
her head back in and rushed to her room door without even bothering to put on a robe or
slippers. She ran down the dark staircase until she reached the front door and quickly
released the bolts. She opened the door to see Ridge leaning against the porch pillar. He
came towards her just as she threw her arms around his neck and hugged him. Ridge wrapped
his arms around her. They stood there hugging for a few minutes. Each not letting go of
the other until Ridge realised that a chill wind was blowing. " Logan, you're crazy
to come out here without even a coat or something. Do you want to get sick again?" he
said. Pulling her inside the house, but still keeping his arms around her, he closed the
door and locked it again. Ridge turned Brooke's face towards
his and bent his head to place a tiny fluttering kiss on her lips. Slipping an arm beneath
her knees and the other under her arms, he lifted her high against his chest. Burying her
head on his chest, Brooke wrapped her arms around Ridge's strong neck and held on for dear
life. Ridge carried Brooke upstairs and made his way towards her bedroom. He entered the
dimly lit room and elbowed the door shut. Lowering Brooke on her bed, Ridge shrugged his
jacket off. Kneeling at the edge of her bed, Brooke frantically began unbuttoning his
shirt as he slipped out of his pants. He kicked his shoes aside and got into bed beside
her. Later that night. Brooke lay listening to Ridge's
steady heartbeat. Her head was resting on his bare chest. His arms were protectively
wrapped around her and all she could think of was that she was in heaven. Their lovemaking
that night was like nothing she had ever experienced. Their urgency for one another
surpassed everything and now as she lay in his arms she never wanted to leave. Ridge pulled the comforter over the
both of them. Brooke looked up and smiled sleepily at him. Gently cupping her face, he
placed soft kisses over her eyelids and one on the tip of her nose. Tracing the fullness
of her mouth with his finger, he covered her mouth with his and kissed her long and deep.
When they pulled apart, her lovely blue eyes were brimming with unshed tears. A lone tear
trickled down her cheek. " What's wrong Logan? Why are you crying?" asked Ridge.
" I don't know Ridge. I really don't know why?" whispered Brooke as she looked
up at him. In reality they both knew why she was crying. Their love for one another was unlike
anything they had ever encountered. There was so much emotion. So much pent up desire that
it had to be released in the only way one could. The love they had for one another was
forbidden.
Ridge was married to Taylor and he had a son with her. Ridge loved Taylor but somehow
their love was so different. It wasn't even close to what he and Brooke had. It seemed
like there was some magnetic love force that drew both Ridge and Brooke together. It was
so powerful that in the end, they found themselves fused to one another. It was
frightening yet so endearing. Now as Ridge gazed into Brooke's
eyes, he saw his love for her reflected there. "What are you thinking about
Logan?" asked Ridge softly. He pushed a wayward strand of golden hair away from her
forehead and tucked it behind her ear. "That's a dangerous question, Ridge."
replied Brooke. "Why?" asked Ridge as he plumped the pillows behind them and
settled back in bed. He pulled Brooke up so she was cuddled next to him with his arm
around her shoulder. "You really want to know?" asked Brooke as she looked at
him. "Yes. I do." said Ridge. "I'm thinking of what it would be like
tomorrow, next week and the weeks to come. I'm wondering where this is going." said
Brooke. " Are you regretting what we
just had. Of what has happened between us?" asked Ridge. " I don't regret anything that
has happened between us. I'm just so scared." replied Brooke. " What are you
afraid of Logan?" asked Ridge puzzled. He turned her face so it was meeting his.
Brooke replied, " I'm afraid I'm falling in love with you and I'm so afraid of losing
you at the same time." Ridge took Brooke in his arms as she had begun to cry. He held
her close to his heart and placed a kiss on her wet cheeks. " I'll always be there
for you Logan. You're never going to lose me. I love you, Logan" said Ridge. "Listen to me Logan." said Ridge as he lay down on the bed facing her. " I've been doing some thinking and I came up with a few things. My marriage is failing and it's not because of anything you did. Taylor and I had problems long before we even met at Big Bear last Christmas. " said Ridge. "What are you going to do Ridge?" asked Brooke. " I don't have a definite answer Logan. I have Thomas to think about too. It looks like I have to try and work out something. If things turn out worse, then " Ridge looked at Brooke sadly. Taking his hand in hers, Brooke replied, " I'm not setting any conditions or rules here Ridge. You're forgetting something else or rather someone else. Your unborn baby. You said you didn't know the father of the child." " I know for sure it's Pierce's baby," said Ridge gruffly. "Don't assume, Ridge. Find out first." said Brooke. "I guess you're right, Logan but where does that leave us." asked Ridge. Brooke looked at Ridge and replied,
" That leaves us right where we are at the moment. I know it doesn't make much sense
but I'll accept whatever decision you make and I'll always remember and cherish what we
had together." " Logan, Thank you for understanding. I want you to remember
this. I'll always love you and I'll always be there for you no matter what happens between
us. I don't want our relationship to sound platonic or tacky. I love you. Remember that
always."said Ridge as he gathered Brooke in his arms and hugged her tightly. " I
love you too,Ridge" said Brooke. They spent the rest of the night
together until Ridge left early in the morning before Rick or Bridget woke up. Brooke woke
the next morning feeling happy and looking forward to going back to her work. There wasn't
a definite future ahead for her but there will always be Ridge, her family and her kids.
Brooke had discovered love again although it was
forbidden love. THE END Thank you for reading my story. I
